Medicare Enrollment for 2026

Medicare Advantage plans are changing for 2027. It’s important to understand these changes and how they might affect you. Costs will change and some Medicare Advantage plans will no longer be available in 2027, so take your time learning about your options for open enrollment.

2027 Medicare Advantage plans that include our doctors and facilities


For 2027, our health system will participate in the Medicare Advantage plans with the insurers listed below. This includes the Fairview providers and facilities in the Twin Cities metro area, Fairview Range in Hibbing, and Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Once you find the health plan options available to you, make sure that your Fairview care team is in the health plan network before you enroll. If your doctors and their clinics and hospitals aren’t in the plan’s network, you would not be able to schedule appointments on or after Jan. 1, 2027, even if they have previously scheduled with us.   

UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage Coverage Update for 2027 

 

Fairview Health Services has made the decision to no longer contract with UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans because ongoing issues such as frequent coverage changes, denials, and payment issues have made it difficult for patients to access timely, high-quality care. As a result, Fairview will no longer schedule patients with UHC Medicare Advantage plans beginning Jan. 1, 2027.  We understand this change creates uncertainty and frustration. Our goal is to support patients with clear information and individualized guidance.  

Our Medicare Advantage agreement with UHC commercial insurance products is not affected. Patients with UHC commercial insurance will continue to have in-network access to Fairview in 2027.  

If you are covered by a UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plan and want to continue seeking non-emergency care at Fairview:  

  • Review your insurance options and be prepared to change coverage during open enrollment, Oct. 15-Dec. 7, 2026.
  • Select a different plan for 2027. Other Medicare Advantage plans in network with Fairview include Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota, HealthPartners, and Medica. Fairview also accepts many other plans, such as Original Medicare, Medicare Cost Plans, Medicare Supplemental Plans, and Medicare plans offered through an employer.  
  • If you are in active care at the end of 2026, ask your care team about continuity of care.

What to Know About the Open Enrollment Process


If you are enrolling or updating enrollment for 2027, please be aware of the following information. 

  • Open Enrollment: October 15–December 7, 2026.
  • What to do: Review your plan options and make any changes. Any changes you make will take effect on January 1, 2027.
  • If you are happy with your current plan: You don't need to do anything at this point. However, be sure to check for changes to your plan for 2027.
  • If your plan is ending: Your insurance company must send you an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) by the end of September 2026. This letter will explain the changes and your options.
  • If your plan is ending: You will need to choose a new plan during the open enrollment period to ensure coverage for 2027.

Again, remember that coverage might change, even if you think you are keeping the same plan. Check to make sure your M Health Fairview providers are still in-network to make sure you are able to continue scheduling visits in 2027.
