If pain is holding you back, M Health Fairview orthopedic and sports medicine specialists can help
When your body hurts, it can be difficult to keep up with your exercise goals or everyday activities like brushing your hair, grocery shopping, or going for a walk. At M Health Fairview locations throughout the Twin Cities, teams of orthopedic, podiatry, and sports medicine specialists are ready to help you get moving again.
Whether you’re a weekend gardener, fair-weather walker, or a regular at your gym, you can get care from the same musculoskeletal care specialists who keep University of Minnesota Gopher athletes in the game. No athletic scholarship required.
“Movement or ambulation is the very basic foundation to everyone’s health and life satisfaction,” said Scott Runde, DPM. “As a podiatrist, I am inspired to help people keep moving as we age and move better after injuries or as deformity develops.”
If pain or an injury has you on the sidelines, our team can evaluate muscle, bone, and joint issues, from shoulders to toes. A variety of treatments are available in the M Health Fairview system, starting with conservative options like therapy, medication, and injections, then including surgery if necessary.
Our team is skilled in providing care for:
- Arthritis
- Concussions
- Pain in the knees, shoulders, elbows, hands, wrists, and hips
- Conditions affecting ankles and feet
- Musculoskeletal tumors
- Injuries like bone fractures, tennis elbow, and various sprains, strains, and tears
“Each person is treated as a unique individual with their own needs, beliefs, preferences, and goals,” said Jacob Kastner, DO, a sports medicine provider at M Health Fairview. “We don’t stop when standard treatment has been maximized, we will use every available resource to get you better.”
Along with physical and occupational therapists, the team will work together to tailor a treatment plan just for you.
Joint repair and replacement
Our surgeons use the latest techniques to make recovery from joint repairs and replacements as smooth as possible. Some patients are even able to leave the hospital the same day.
Our experienced surgeons can repair or replace joints that are causing pain and limiting mobility. Knee and hip replacements are the most common. We also have surgeons who specialize in shoulders, elbows, feet, ankles, hands, and wrists.
The program at M Health Fairview Northland Medical Center uses a Mako surgical robot to assist with hip and knee replacement surgeries. The robot helps make surgical incisions more precise, which also helps reduce recovery time.
“We’re in a rural community and have a lot of rural cities around us that come here,” said Abby Walrath, RN, BSN, a patient care supervisor at Northland. “So it’s awesome that we’re able to provide our patients with that kind of access to care that offers a shorter hospital stay, fewer complications, quicker recovery time, less chance of surgical-site infections, and just better patient outcomes.”
