M Health Fairview is home to the No. 1 hospital in the Twin Cities, says U.S. News & World Report
At M Health Fairview, excellence in care is nothing new. But now, with M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center (UMMC) ranked No. 1 in the Twin Cities by U.S. News & World Report, it’s official.
We’re proud to have earned this recognition as the top hospital in the Twin Cities metro area, with U.S. News & World Report also ranking UMMC No. 3 in the state. While accolades are always appreciated, it’s the trust of our patients that truly matters. When we say our patients come first, we mean it, and now our rankings reflect that commitment.
Our dedication to providing world-class care is demonstrated not only by the top rankings but also by our outstanding specialties. UMMC’s Neurology/Neurosurgery ranked No. 43 nationally, and our Rehabilitation services earned No. 49. We are also honored for UMMC to have received the “Best Regional Hospital for Community Access” award for success in caring for patients from all socioeconomic backgrounds while maintaining the highest quality of care.
“We’re incredibly proud to see M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center recognized by U.S. News & World Report as the top hospital in the Twin Cities,” said Olivia Ajja, chief operating officer of acute care at the medical center. “This honor reflects the ongoing commitment of our entire team—from our dedicated faculty and clinicians to our frontline caregivers—delivering care that is accessible, equitable, and rooted in excellence for every patient we serve. It’s especially meaningful to be recognized for serving patients across all socioeconomic backgrounds. From honoring cultural traditions to reducing infection rates and advancing clinical innovation, this achievement is a testament to the dedication, compassion, and excellence of our entire team.”
M Health Fairview Southdale and St. John’s hospitals have also seen significant improvements in rankings. Southdale is now No. 4 in the metro area while St. John’s broke into the metro and state rankings this year, landing at No. 8 in the metro and No. 11 in Minnesota, an impressive jump after being unranked last year.
"The U.S. News rankings validate the hard work by our teams leading to better patient outcomes,” said Abraham Jacob, MD, MHA, chief quality officer with M Health Fairview and an associate professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School. “Our teams should be proud to have the highest-ranked pediatric and adult medical centers in the Twin Cities."
Across our 10 M Health Fairview and Fairview hospitals this year, 50 procedures and treatment categories earned “High Performing” status, up from 34 last year.
This achievement reflects the talented faculty, specialists, nurses, and clinical teams across all departments. Their commitment to innovation, patient care, and community service is what truly drives our excellence.
“Under this dedicated multidisciplinary team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, researchers, and other experts, we deliver truly integrated, world‑class care across Minnesota,” said Brian Gager, MHSA, FACHE, neuroscience service line executive for M Health Fairview. “This team’s collective expertise and unwavering commitment allow us to lead the future of care for our neurology and neurosurgery patients."
Peggy Mueller, vice president of Rehabilitation Services with M Health Fairview, expressed similar pride in her team’s performance.
“The Acute Rehabilitation Center team utilizes their expertise and compassion to provide an intensive, comprehensive and coordinated approach to rehabilitation care for patients following injury or illness,” Mueller said. “The team strives to innovate on behalf of every patient they serve.”
