M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital: The Twin Cities’ top-ranked destination in 2023 for pediatric care
At M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital, some of the world’s leading medical experts just happen to come with the most caring hearts.
That combination of compassion and expertise is why M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital is once again the Twin Cities’ top-ranked children’s hospital, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2023-24 Best Children’s Hospital list.
This year, we are honored to be the highest-ranked children’s hospital in the Twin Cities and second statewide behind Mayo Clinic. Our children’s hospital also received national honors in two specialty care areas: We were ranked 22nd in the nation in nephrology (kidney) care in partnership with Children’s Minnesota and 48th nationally in gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery. It is the 16th year in a row that our children’s hospital has earned national distinction from U.S. News & World Report.
“Our committed teams are always at your side – no matter if your family lives around the corner from one of our neighborhood clinics, or if you’re traveling from another state or country for life-saving care,” said Sarah Jane Schwarzenberg, MD, an M Health Fairview pediatric gastroenterologist, co-chief of our Women’s and Children’s Service Line, and a professor at University of Minnesota Medical School.
“Through our partnership with the University of Minnesota, our health system provides the best-possible care for children, and develops medical advances through clinical research that creates lasting change for all children,” Schwarzenberg said.

This means our patients have access to the latest research, developing health technologies, and breakthrough treatments that may not be available anywhere else.
“I want to congratulate our entire children’s hospital team. This honor and our ability to provide life-changing care wouldn’t be possible without all the remarkable daily contributions from our providers, hospital staff, researchers, philanthropic donors, and the wider community,” said Joseph Neglia, MD, MPH, physician-in-chief at M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital and head of the Department of Pediatrics at University of Minnesota Medical School. “This honor also reflects our role as Minnesota’s oldest and only academic children’s hospital, with a decades-long legacy of remarkable medical advances.”
Not only do we provide breakthrough care, we also seek to make our patients’ stays at our hospital as welcoming and comfortable as possible through unique “home away from home” amenities, thanks to help from our community partners who have chosen to make a difference for the children and families we serve:

About the U.S. News & World Report Ranking
U.S. News and World Report introduced its “Best Children’s Hospitals” rankings in 2007 to help families of children with rare or life-threatening illnesses find the best medical care. To produce the list, U.S. News reviews data from nearly 200 medical centers. They evaluate a range of factors, including patient safety, infection prevention, level of nurse staffing, clinical research, and a survey of over 6,000 pediatric specialists nationwide. The list recognizes the top 50 pediatric hospitals across the U.S. in 10 specialties, ranging from cancer care to neurosurgery, as well as providing statewide and regional rankings.
