Three nurses among Mpls.St.Paul Magazine "Outstanding Nurses Awards" recipients
We’re proud to announce that two University of Minnesota Health nurses and one University of Minnesota School of Nursing nurse were recently recognized as “Outstanding Nurses” in 2018 by Mpls.St.Paul Magazine.
The three nurses were among 17 total winners announced at the magazine’s annual banquet, held on Aug. 7, 2018. This year’s winners—and the categories in which they earned recognition—are as follows:
- Outstanding Advanced Practice Nurse: Marie Cook, APRN, CNP, MPH, CCTC, Clinical Operations Manager, Transplant Services, University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital
- Rising Star Award: Kayla Warner, RN, RN Care Coordinator, University of Minnesota Physicians Smiley’s Family Medicine Clinic
- Outstanding Nurse Researcher: Ann E. Garwick, PhD, RN, LP, LMFT, FAAN, University of Minnesota School of Nursing
“We are very lucky to have dedicated and talented nurses who exemplify nursing excellence at University of Minnesota Health,” said Deb Cathcart, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, chief nurse executive for University of Minnesota Health. “I am honored that so many of our nurses were nominated for awards this year and congratulate our winners of the 2018 Mpls.St.Paul Magazine’s Outstanding Nurses Awards.”
Nominations were assessed on a seven-point rubric that included: professionalism; interaction with patients and families; credentials and experience; initiative and commitment; impact on an organization, leadership; and an “it” factor exemplifying kindness, compassion and empathy. Additional weight was given to those who received multiple nominations from a variety of sources, and to those nominated by their patients or their patients’ families. Nominations were vetted and judged by a four-person team of nurses working in the field.
