Trio of M Health Fairview hospitals among the best in Minnesota
Our teams of healthcare providers don’t deliver high-quality care to win awards, but it’s nice when their efforts are recognized. This year, U.S. News & World Report ranked three of our hospitals among the top 10 in Minnesota and recognized six of our specialty care areas as high performers on its 2024-25 Best Hospitals list.
The rankings are based on objective measurements including patient satisfaction scores, hospital volume, quality of nursing, risk-adjusted survival, and discharge-to-home rates. To compile its annual list, U.S. News & World Report evaluated nearly 4,500 hospitals across 15 adult care specialties, from cancer care to urology, and more than 4,300 hospitals across 20 procedure/condition categories, such as knee replacements or heart failure.
M Health Fairview Ridges Hospital, Southdale Hospital, and University of Minnesota Medical Center were named among the 10 best hospitals in Minnesota, while Southdale and University of Minnesota Medical Center were also ranked among the top five hospitals in the Twin Cities. University of Minnesota Medical Center was also recognized on the national level for its high performance in six specialties, including cancer care, gastroenterology, and neurology. See the full list below.
“We are incredibly honored to be recognized by US News & World Report for our excellence in clinical care,” said Olivia Ajja, chief operating officer of M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center. “This ranking reflects the unwavering commitment and dedication of our entire healthcare team in providing the highest quality of care to our patients. It is a testament to our ongoing efforts to advance medical practices, invest in innovative technologies, and lead in highly specialized surgeries, treatments, and experimental medical care. We’re proud to be able to offer this level of care right here in Minneapolis and the region.”
University of Minnesota Medical Center was also a high performer in nine procedure and condition categories. For the first time this year, the hospital was recognized for high performance in gynecological and prostate cancer surgeries.
Hospitals are rated relative to other rated hospitals in treating patients 65 and older. Five other M Health Fairview hospitals were recognized for providing high-preforming procedure and condition-based care in a variety of areas. Across our health system, our hospital teams performed well in pneumonia, colon cancer surgery, and heart failure.
“Our steady improvement in the US News & World Report rankings show the hard work our teams have done to standardize care delivery and deliver high-quality care across the system," said Abe Jacob, MD, MHA, M Health Fairview's chief quality officer. Jacob is also a pediatrician, as well as an associate professor with University of Minnesota Medical School. "Minnesotans can be confident that when they enter an M Health Fairview facility, that there is a team caring for them deeply committed to high quality and safe care."
“It’s exciting to see our programs recognized on a state and national level,” said Jeoff Will, executive vice president and chief operating officer. “We know that our care teams bring the very best of themselves to work every day and our patients benefit.”
