Cervical dysplasia
Our approach
Cervical dysplasia is a precancerous condition in which abnormal cell growth occurs on the surface of the cervix most commonly due to the human papillomavirus (HPV). It is also called cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). There are usually no symptoms of cervical dysplasia, and it is often discovered during a routine pap test.
Women with mild dysplasia often only require careful follow up to see if it resolves. Moderate to severe cervical dysplasia often requires treatment to remove the abnormal cells. There are several procedures used to diagnose and cervical dysplasia, including:
- Repeat Pap Smears
- Cervical Cone Biopsy
- Endocervical curettage
- Loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP)
- Colposcopy
- Cryosurgery
