Heart Attack
Overview
When the blood flow to your heart is blocked, you have had a heart attack, or a myocardial infarction. This is a medical emergency, and you should call 911. Symptoms of a heart attack include chest pain or tightness; pain in your shoulders, neck, arms or jaw; lightheadedness; sweating; nausea, or shortness of breath. A heart attack is often caused by a build-up of fat or cholesterol that forms a plaque in your arteries, closing off the flow of blood and damaging your heart muscle.
Our approach
M Health Fairview Heart Care has been at the leading edge of heart care for many years. In 1986, we became one of the first in the United States to use angioplasty to reopen heart arteries in patients having heart attacks. This procedure is now standard therapy around the world and often includes drug-eluting stents to keep the arteries open after the procedure. Our multidisciplinary team combines leading edge technology with compassionate care to provide you with exceptional medical outcomes.
