Skin Cancer
Overview
The three most common types of skin cancer are basal cell (cancer of the outer layer of the skin), squamous cell (cancer of the surface of the skin), and melanoma (cancer of the cells that make pigment).
Our approach
M Health Fairview offers you multidisciplinary care for all types of skin cancers, including specialized care programs for advanced or metastatic skin cancers.
We specialize in unique therapies and treatments including phototherapy, photopheresis, and Mohs micrographic surgery. Mohs surgery is an outpatient procedure to treat aggressive cancer, as well as cancer in cosmetically sensitive areas, such as the face or around the eyes. With the Mohs procedure, your doctor will remove the skin growth layer by layer, examining each layer under the microscope for abnormal cells. This procedure eliminates cancerous cells without removing much of the surrounding healthy skin.
We are dedicated to finding new therapies to treat skin cancer. If you need advanced care in the treatment of metastatic melanoma, we now offer isolated limb perfusion chemotherapy, chemoembolization, radioembolization and high-dose interleukin-2 therapy. We are leaders in treating skin cancers in solid organ transplant patients with photodynamic therapy and oral chemotherapy, and we continue to develop new vaccines for the treatment of melanoma.
