Your thyroid, a small, butterfly-shaped gland located on the front of your neck, is part of your endocrine system, which makes and regulates hormones that control your heart rate, blood pressure, and metabolism.
Our multidisciplinary team of specialists treats many forms of complex thyroid and endocrine cancers with innovative diagnosis and treatment options.
Our approach
We are one of a few programs to use molecular DNA analysis on biopsies to determine if a thyroid nodule could become cancer or may have undetected cancer already. This reduces the need to re-operate when only half of the thyroid is removed.
In addition, we are one of a small group of international hospitals to treat poorly differentiated thyroid and adrenal carcinomas with aggressive surgery and medical oncology, and we were the first in Minnesota to establish a robotic thyroid surgery program. We also are the only program in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area to perform almost all of our thyroid and parathyroid surgeries on an outpatient basis.
Research is important to our physicians, many of whom are also faculty at the Masonic Cancer Center, University of Minnesota, one of only 41 National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States. Clinical trials are underway to improve outcomes and treatment options for patients with thyroid and endocrine cancers.
