Sensation to touch, pressure, temperature, and pain in the face is linked to the trigeminal nerve. The trigeminal nerve is divided into three segments connected to the forehead, eye, cheek, and jaw.

Overview

Inflammation or pressure on the nerve can cause moderate to severe intermittent pain. Some people experience intermittent episodes of pain that lasts from a several seconds to minutes. The pain can interrupt normal activities and cause people to avoid activities that tend to trigger the onset of pain. These activities include using the mouth for speaking, chewing, swallowing. Or normal routines such as brushing teeth or shaving.
