Provider Ten Step Education:
A limited number of seats are available at an institutional rate for M Health Fairview physicians, resident physicians, nurse practitioners nurse midwives, and others in a 3-4 hour online program specifically designed for all maternal-infant healthcare providers who work with expectant and new families and their babies. This course focuses on the healthcare provider's role in caring for pregnant and new families and is designed to help hospitals and communities provide the basics of early breastfeeding care and management of breastfeeding challenges, with a focus on implementing the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding. Excellence In Care With The Ten Steps:
This 15-hour online program advances evidence-based infant feeding policies and practices in the hospital or clinic. It also provides the education cornerstone for hospitals who wish to pursue the designation of "Baby-Friendly"- and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to anyone who meets the system requirements. This workshop explores the rapidly changing role of all healthcare professionals in caring for pregnant and new families and is designed to help hospitals and communities provide the basics of early breastfeeding care, with a focus on implementing The Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding.
Students will have two months (60 days) to complete the course.
Presented online by Molly Pessl, RN, BSN, IBCLC, FILCA, an internationally recognized expert in maternity and pediatric care and lactation. Molly is the owner and director of Evergreen Perinatal Education.

Other Professional Education in Breastfeeding and Lactation
On occasion we host or refer medical staff to a more intensive course on evidence-based breastfeeding and lactation care. Cardiovascular Grand Rounds:
Description: Physicians and other medical professionals can stay up-to-date on the latest developments in cardiology at weekly meetings of the Cardiovascular Grand Rounds. Grand Rounds present evolving diagnosis and treatment in heart care and provide a relevant, in-depth review of important cardiovascular topics. These meeting are held at the University of Minnesota and are part of the Academic Cardiology Lecture Series.

The M Health Fairview Twin Cities Sports Medicine annual conference on September 30, 2022, will feature national, regional, and local leaders in Sports Medicine and Orthopedics who will share the latest in research and treatment through expert lectures with questions-and-answers panel discussions on clinically important topics.

Child Family Life Educational Opportunities
The Child Family Life department at M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital currently offers internship and practicum opportunities for both fall and spring semesters (We currently do not offer summer internship or practicum experiences). Our program abides by the Association of Child Life Professional’s (ACLP’s) standards for internship application deadlines. See below for specific practicum information.

Child Life Specialist Internship
M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital offers a 16-week, 640-hour full time internship. Work hours vary depending upon the needs of the patients on each unit, but generally consists of working 32-40hrs/week. Some shifts or rotations may be completed at another M Health Fairview location.
The number of interns accepted each semester varies depending on available staff resources.
Eligibility Requirements:
The following minimum entrance requirements are consistent with national standards endorsed by the Association of Child Life Professionals.

Practicum
Child Family Life Practicum
This practicum is intended to provide an observational opportunity to individuals interested in the child life profession. The participant will have opportunities to observe child life interactions through a minimum of 120 hours of supervision. We hope to enhance the understanding of child development and effects the hospital experience can have on children as well as the value of preparation and play.
We offer practicums at both M Health Fairview Masonic Children's Hospital and M Health Fairview Ridges Hospital.
Fall applications are due the First Friday in May.
Winter/Spring applications are due the first Friday in October.
