About this Location

The University of Minnesota Clinics and Surgery Center is a new, 342,000-square-foot care facility that opened in February 2016 on the East Bank of the University of Minnesota Medical Center campus. The five-floor facility was designed and developed around the twin principles of innovation and accessibility. To meet that vision, we offer expanded clinic hours and leverage state-of-the-art technology to improve the patient experience. During your visit to the Clinics and Surgery Center, your care is coordinated seamlessly across multiple specialties and your treatment is led by our highly skilled, collaborative care teams. Tour our new Clinics and Surgery Center. Inside the Clinics and Surgery Center houses 37 adult medical specialties, ranging from primary care to neurology to cardiology. Patients can expect a new and extraordinary experience when they visit our clinics and surgery center.

With a wide range of specialists located in one, easy to access location, the space is designed for collaboration and allow our care teams to work together in new ways to meet each patient's unique needs. In addition to these clinics, the center also includes the following facilities or features: An Ambulatory Surgery and Procedure Center A retail pharmacy Imaging services, including interventional radiology and mammography A café with a full service menu for patients and visitors 171 spacious exam rooms 10 operating rooms in our Ambulatory Surgery and Procedure Center- six of which will be open on day 1- where surgeons can provide surgery for healthy patients who could then be discharged the same day of their procedure. 6 procedure rooms, for patients who need minor surgeries or procedures requiring local anesthetic or conscious IV sedation. Examples include vein ablations, cataract procedures and more.

Patients experience the same innovative care from world-renowned specialists, but benefit from an enhanced environment and services including: Extended clinic hours Convenient scheduling Easy check-in and check-out, including eCheck-In from home via MyChart Within the Clinics and Surgery Center, we have both freestanding and hospital-based clinics, which are part of University of Minnesota Medical Center.

In the Clinics and Surgery center, our Care Connect system helps care teams easily find patients and each other. Care Connect provides a better staff and patient experience by reducing wait times— and helps us to deliver more personalized care. Patients and staff are asked to wear a Care Badge that helps us know their location within the Clinics and Surgery Center. You will receive a Care Badge at check-in to wear during your entire visit. When your care provider is ready to see you, the badge will allow one of our staff members to find you and bring you to the appropriate location for your appointment. Care Connect reduces patient wait times by alerting clinic staff if a patient has been waiting too long at any point during the visit. During your visit to the Clinics and Surgery Center, you may need to access care at multiple locations within the building. For example, a patient who visits our Orthopedic Clinic on the fourth floor may need additional CTI or MRI imaging, which is located on the first floor. With Care Connect, our care teams can keep an eye on your progress and be ready for you each step of the way. The Clinics and Surgery Center was designed to integrate research participation with your care. University of Minnesota's Study Finder is a one-stop shop that allows our patients to look up any eligible health research study and connect with our research teams. Be sure to check out our video monitors in the building for news about new research advancements, as well as the StudyFinder kiosk in the main lobby. Our research teams work seamlessly with our care teams to ensure that your experience, should you choose to participate in a research study, is as smooth and convenient as possible.

Important Billing Information: This location contains multiple hospital-based clinics and your insurance may cover a visit differently than a standalone clinic. Please check with your clinic if they are considered a hospital-based clinic and contact your insurance to see how they cover facility charges in a “hospital-based outpatient” or “provider-based” location. Directions:

The Clinics and Surgery Center (CSC) is located at 909 Fulton Street Southeast in Minneapolis, on the University of Minnesota’s East Bank campus. This is an urban area with multiple transportation and parking options that visitors are encouraged to review in advance. When coming for an appointment, please allow extra time for parking and making your way to check-in.

If driving to the CSC via Interstate 94, use Exit 235B (Huron Boulevard), then turn left on Fulton Street. The CSC will be on your right, including the main arrival plaza used for patient drop-offs (right lane) and valet service (left two lanes).

You may wish to consult a map of East Bank parking options and shuttle stops.

Parking Information:

Valet:

Access valet services from the main arrival plaza on Fulton Street. Available to all visitors from 7 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday, it is the most convenient parking option. Please follow posted signage. Upon departure, pay with cash or card at the valet pay station in the main lobby on the first floor. Tips are not expected.

West Lot:

This surface lot is located west of Ontario Street, across from the CSC's main entrance, making it the most convenient self-park option. Signage will indicate the occasions when the West Lot is full. In these situations, visitors should consider using valet or the Oak Street Ramp.

Oak Street Ramp:

The Oak Street Ramp is also located west of Ontario Street, one block north of the West Lot. Be sure to use the ramp entrance on Ontario Street (not on Oak Street) and follow the center lane designated "M Health Fairview” to ground-level spaces reserved for CSC patients. Please disregard any signage indicating the ramp is full or available by reservation only. This does not pertain to the spaces dedicated for CSC patients. You will receive a ticket upon entering. As you leave your appointment, bring your ticket to the desk marked “valet pay station” in the CSC’s main lobby on the first floor to receive a reduced rate. (This rate is only for the Oak Street Ramp, not for the West Lot, and is only available through the pay station in the CSC).

Street Parking:

Limited parking spaces are available on the streets surrounding the CSC. These metered city spaces are not managed by M Health Fairview. Please refer to posted signage for restrictions.

ADA Parking:

Visitors with mobility limitations are strongly encouraged to use either valet service or designated spaces in the West Lot. Additional ADA-compliant parking spaces are also designated in the Oak Street Ramp.

Multi-use Pass:

Those making frequent visits to the CSC can save time and money with a multi-use pass for valet service or self-parking in the West Lot. For more information or to purchase a pass, stop by the desk marked “valet pay station” in the main lobby on the first floor.


Other Transportation Options:


Light Rail:

The closest light rail stop to the CSC is Stadium Village. This is a 4 to 5 block distance with no shuttle service. Alternatively, those taking the METRO Green Line are encouraged to get off at the East Bank station and walk south on Harvard Street to the Health Sciences Education Center. From there, take the Stadium Superblock Circulator, which runs on regular intervals and transports passengers to the front of the CSC.

Shuttle:

Shuttles run between the CSC and other campus locations, including M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center and M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital. See details here.

Bicycle:

Several bike racks are available around the CSC on a first-come, first-served basis.
