Before your visit
1. Confirm your lab order
Without a lab order you may experience longer wait times. To confirm, please review your orders using MyChart under ‘Upcoming Tests and Procedures.’ If you don't see your order(s), please call your provider’s office.
2. Prepare for testing
Some tests require prep (for example: fasting, avoiding certain foods/medications, etc.). Ensure you understand the instructions from your provider. Instructions are typically located in your after-visit summary – which can be found in the M Health Fairview patient app Download here or MyChart If you haven't received any, please request them from your provider.
3. Understand your costs
You can get an estimate of lab costs using the M Health Fairview patient app Download here or MyChart . If you have insurance, check with your insurance provider to see if the test you ordered are covered by your plan - and to understand what out-of-pocket expenses you may be required to pay.
Medicare fee-for-service patients should understand that the test may not be covered by their insurance. Make sure you understand what the test is for and have the provider review the Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN), if applicable, prior to your lab visit. A lab tech is not able to speak to the ABN, reasons why a test is ordered, or any cost related questions.
