Language Access and Your Right to Quality Care
Every patient has the right to receive healthcare services in a language they understand. It’s important for you to be able to ask questions, raise concerns, and communicate effectively with your doctors and healthcare team. That’s why M Health Fairview provides free interpreter and translation services and communication aids 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can request an interpreter:
- When you make your appointment
- Any time before your appointment
- When you arrive for your appointment
- When you tell a staff member at any time during your appointment that you would like interpreter services.
How Does It Work?
Interpreter services are available free of charge 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In-person, telephone, and video interpreters are available in many languages. Phone and video interpreter services are available on demand for about 250 languages and dialects.
In-person interpreter services are available for the following languages:
We also provide additional communication aids, cart services for real-time captioning, and translation services for patient education materials.
When we schedule your first visit, we’ll ask about your preferred language and whether you will need interpreter services. Once your interpreter needs are in your chart, we’ll arrange for interpreter services at every visit.
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services
We provide certified ASL interpreters or CART to patients who are deaf, deafblind, or hard of hearing. Communication aids are available free of charge upon request. If you would like these services, please tell any M Health Fairview staff member and state your preferences.
