Overview

Warfarin (common brand name is Coumadin) is a very helpful and effective drug, but it can be dangerous if you don’t work with a health provider to monitor your INR (International Normalized Ratio) and other clotting factors closely. Taking too little warfarin can lead to blood clots. Taking too much warfarin can lead to bleeding. Your required dose may change based on factors such as your, health, diet, or other mediations or supplements you are taking. Anticoagulant medications slow down clotting in your blood. These medications are often prescribed to reduce the chance of having a serious health event, such as a heart attack or stroke, for those at high risk of getting clots.
