Our approach
Low back pain
Back pain is just that, painful. It is also very common, with 8 in 10 of us experiencing low back pain at some point in our lives. Common and painful as it may be, low back pain is rarely due to serious or life-threatening problems. In most cases, the intense pain is gone in just a few short weeks. Trying to stay as active as possible will help you get back to your usual activities faster. Sometimes, the pain will resolve on its own. However, not every type of back pain needs the same care. If it isn’t getting better on its own, back pain can improve significantly when provided with the right type of treatment.
What types of treatment do we offer?
In the world of treating low back pain, there are many options. There are a few styles of conservative therapy for low back pain that have been researched and found to be superior to the rest. We pride ourselves on using the best treatments out there to help you reach your goals quickly. Our skilled providers use a combination of the best research, their clinical expertise, and your values to decide on the right combination of treatments.
As a component of your care, you will get access to PTRx, our electronic home exercise program which will help you manage your back pain if it comes back in the future. We provide each patient with a personalized website to help with follow through at home.
Active Recovery
Sometimes, you just need to get moving. For low back pain related to surgery, illness, or deconditioning, our therapists are skilled at selecting the right level of exercise to help achieve your goals.
Direction of preference
Sometimes, you need to get moving in the right direction. If you’ve found that there are certain movements or positions that make you feel better or worse, this type of therapy can be beneficial. Your therapist can help determine if you would benefit from a specific type of exercise. Read more about direction of preference (also known as mechanical diagnosis and therapy or MDT) here.
Hands on treatment
Sometimes, your back just has to get moving faster. We have Physical Therapists with advanced training in mobilization and/or manipulation. They are trained to assess where you could move better and apply hands-on treatments that will help speed your recovery along.
Core stabilization
Sometimes, you just need to get stronger. Core strengthening is one of the few treatments known to decrease the risk of your back pain coming back. Our therapists are ready to develop a core strengthening program that will decrease your pain and get you back to your active life. PTRx, our innovative home program website, allows for advancement of your exercises through a quick virtual visit with your Physical Therapist.
Pain relieving modalities
Traditional physical therapy modalities including ultrasound and hot/cold therapy are sometimes used as a complement to the treatments listed above. Our physical therapists may include dry needling in your treatment plan. Talk to your provider for more information about if this is a good fit for you.

Neck and upper back pain
Neck pain is a common problem among Americans. An estimated 70% of us will have neck pain at one point in our lives. The worst of the pain is often better within a few weeks. However, many people experience persistent pain. In most cases, a course of treatment will get through the initial pain. From there, the skills and self-care you will learn from your provider will help you manage the problem. We pride ourselves on using the best treatments out there to help you reach your goals quickly. Our skilled providers use a combination of the best research, their clinical expertise, and your values to decide on the right combination of treatments.
