EMG and NCS are diagnostic tests that help your physician evaluate the function of your peripheral nerves and the electrical activity generated by your muscles.

Overview

Peripheral nerves are the "wires" or "cables" that control your sensory (feelings of touch, pain, temperature, vibration, etc.) and motor (muscle contraction) functions. Those tests might be prescribed if you have tingling, numbness, weakness, muscle cramping, or pain.

Our approach

M Health Fairview offers sophisticated equipment including EMG, NCS, and ultrasound devices to help our specialists improve diagnostic accuracy. The NCS test is done by taping electrodes to the skin and stimulating the nerves with a small amount of electricity. The EMG is done by inserting a needle directly into the muscle. Electrical signals from the nerves and muscles are processed and translated into graphs, sounds, or numerical values for interpretation by a specialist.

Specialists at the M Health Fairview Neurology Clinic provide comprehensive care for simple as well as challenging, complex neurological disorders.
