An endoscope is a long, thin, flexible tube with a tiny camera on the end. Endoscopes enable specialists such as pediatric gastroenterologists to see inside your child’s gastrointestinal system without surgery.
Overview
Endoscopes are used to diagnose various conditions. Pediatric gastroenterologists can also use endoscopes to treat and prevent disease by introducing specialized tools through the endoscope to stop bleeding, widen a passage that has narrowed (such as the esophagus), or snip off a polyp.
Our approach
In children and young people, endoscopy is performed in our sedation suite or in the operating room to provide your child a painless and comfortable procedure. Child Family Life providers are available to explain the procedure in our clinics and to provide support and distraction at the time of the procedure. We perform both routine and advanced procedures and offer the latest instruments with high-resolution imaging capabilities.
If an endoscopy suggests that additional intervention is necessary, our pediatric gastroenterologists work with a team of pediatric radiologists and pediatric surgeons to determine the best course of treatment for your child.
