As audiologists, our mission is to help children and teens who are deaf and hard of hearing reach their full potential and experience a greater quality of life. We support and advocate for the young patients in our care, and we believe all kids should have the ability to learn language and understand the world around them. It is our privilege to work with families during every step of their journey towards improved hearing and communication skills.
Pediatric audiology is housed in the Lions Children's Hearing & Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) Clinic adjacent to M Health Fairview Masonic Childrens Hospital. There, we provide comprehensive care for infants, children, and adolescents experiencing hearing loss and balance challenges. Our audiologists hold Doctor of Audiology (AuD) degrees and are highly trained and experienced in all areas of pediatric diagnostics and rehabilitation. We embrace a multidisciplinary approach to care, which means our audiologists collaborate with aural rehabilitation specialists, neurotologists, and otolaryngologists to provide integrated medical and surgical care to patients.
The Lions Children’s Hearing & ENT Clinic makes audiology treatment easy and convenient, since busy families can access all the healthcare professionals they need to see in one location. Coordinated care ensures that each family's needs are met and encourages a shared vision among everyone involved in caring for the child. We also work closely with colleagues in genetics and infectious diseases to determine the causes of hearing loss and engage other care specialties at our children's hospital as needed.
Our audiologists listen to each child and family to understand their challenges, and then we put together a treatment plan that is individualized to their specific needs, goals, and dreams. We offer treatments and tests that address a variety of concerns with hearing function and balance. They often include the following:
- Age-appropriate hearing evaluations
- Newborn hearing screening follow-ups
- Auditory Brainstem Response testing
- Hearing aid consultations/fittings
- Cochlear Implant evaluations and surgery
- Speech-language evaluations and therapy
If your infant, child, or teen has difficulty hearing or with their sense of balance, our team of compassionate audiologists can provide insight into their situation and recommendations for treatment. When kids can hear clearly and effectively, it provides them with a better understanding of their environment, enriches their lives, and strengthens the bonds with those around them.
