When your child needs surgery on their neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, or other areas, our pediatric general surgeons will partner with other doctors and members of your child’s care team to discuss options with you before creating a surgical treatment plan tailored to your child’s unique needs, dreams, and goals. Once a plan is in place, they will help your child and family prepare for the surgery, participate in the surgery itself, and provide supportive care afterward. We’ll let you know how your child and family can prepare for a procedure or surgery – and what you can expect before, during, and after.
We’re the only pediatric general surgery practice in Minnesota to offer three procedures for pectus repair, surgery for complex liver disorders, and advanced procedures for esophageal atresia. In addition, we offer advanced minimally invasive neonatal surgery, ECMO, surgery for difficult colorectal conditions and lung abnormalities, and even prenatal consults for the pregnant mother whose baby has been newly diagnosed with a condition requiring surgery.
Depending on the diagnosis or health need, your child’s care team may include pediatric pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, oncologists, thoracic surgeons, otolaryngologists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, nurses, certified child life specialists, social workers, mental health providers, nutritionists, spiritual support, integrative care specialists, and others. They work together seamlessly to ensure that each child and family receives comprehensive care molded to their personal journey.
Here's how we’re different:
- Experts in general surgery work with a wide range of other complementary specialists to design the best possible medical and surgical treatments for your child.
- Research at the University of Minnesota helps us remain at the forefront of care for patients who have conditions that require general surgery.
