Pediatric General Surgery
Overview
M Health Fairview Pediatrics brings a world of comprehensive, compassionate care to you. Our pediatric general surgery teams perform more than 4,000 procedures and surgeries each year for children of all ages, managing routine cases all the way up to the most complex needs.
We are one of Minnesota’s top institutions for pediatric general surgery, offering state-of-the-art, minimally invasive surgical options and the latest technology for children of all ages. Our gentle, child- and family-focused approach and our expertise in minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgical techniques give children under our care the best-possible outcomes, so they can return to healthy, everyday living.
Anchored by M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital, a nationally recognized children’s hospital located on a leading academic hospital campus in Minneapolis, our pediatric general surgery specialists are national and international leaders. We combine comprehensive care, advanced medical minds, and caring hearts in a team approach with your child and your family at its center. Our team stands ready to give your child the brightest possible future.
Our approach
When your child needs surgery on their neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, or other areas, our pediatric general surgeons will partner with other doctors and members of your child’s care team to discuss options with you before creating a surgical treatment plan tailored to your child’s unique needs, dreams, and goals. Once a plan is in place, they will help your child and family prepare for the surgery, participate in the surgery itself, and provide supportive care afterward. We’ll let you know how your child and family can prepare for a procedure or surgery – and what you can expect before, during, and after.
We’re the only pediatric general surgery practice in Minnesota to offer three procedures for pectus repair, surgery for complex liver disorders, and advanced procedures for esophageal atresia. In addition, we offer advanced minimally invasive neonatal surgery, ECMO, surgery for difficult colorectal conditions and lung abnormalities, and even prenatal consults for the pregnant mother whose baby has been newly diagnosed with a condition requiring surgery.
Depending on the diagnosis or health need, your child’s care team may include pediatric pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, oncologists, thoracic surgeons, otolaryngologists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, nurses, certified child life specialists, social workers, mental health providers, nutritionists, spiritual support, integrative care specialists, and others. They work together seamlessly to ensure that each child and family receives comprehensive care molded to their personal journey.
Here's how we’re different:
- Experts in general surgery work with a wide range of other complementary specialists to design the best possible medical and surgical treatments for your child.
- Research at the University of Minnesota helps us remain at the forefront of care for patients who have conditions that require general surgery.
M Health Fairview Pediatrics is the only children’s health system in Minnesota that has an extensive partnership with the University of Minnesota Medical School, which means our patients have access to leading-edge clinical trials and medical breakthroughs using devices, techniques, and technologies before they’re widely available. By offering breakthrough innovations and opportunities for advanced therapies, we provide your child the best chance of a healthy future.
