Our approach
In our pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation program, we take an integrated, multidisciplinary approach to caring for children and teens with disabilities, injuries, illnesses, or musculoskeletal conditions. Our doctors and care providers value and celebrate every child’s abilities, while drawing upon a variety of healing disciplines and techniques to promote their physical, emotional, and social wellness. Depending on your child’s needs, your care team may include experts in physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, or audiology. Working in partnership with you, our comprehensive team will seamlessly coordinate care for your family.
Pediatric physical therapy
Our physical therapists treat physical challenges of all kinds, whether they’re from an injury, neurological condition, cancer recovery, or other developmental or medical condition that impairs your child’s ability to move.
Pediatric occupational therapy
Our occupational therapists help children and teens increase their independence when living with an injury, developmental concern, illness, sensory dysfunction, or after surgery.
Pediatric speech therapy
Our speech-language pathologists partner with you and your child to improve their ability to communicate. We can help kids with speech, language and voice problems, feeding and swallowing issues, and developmental concerns.
Audiology
Our audiologists have solutions for kids experiencing hearing loss. Treatment options include a wide range of hearing aid models, protheses, and cochlear implants.
Our physical medicine and rehabilitation experts collaborate with the entire M Health Fairview system to ensure your child or adolescent gets the treatment they need, no matter where they are in their rehabilitation journey. Through our partnership with the University of Minnesota Medical School, our team has access to education, resources, and leading-edge science, as they join forces with doctors, researchers, scientists, and other medical professionals to develop new approaches to improving the health of our young patients.
Although rehabilitation does not cure injury or illness, it can help your child adapt to changes and empower them to reach their highest possible level of health and well-being. With enhanced function, resilience, and strength, they can enjoy the fullest possible quality of life.
