Overview
Physical therapy can do more than heal the body; it can be fun. Our physical therapy program for children and adolescents offers a play-focused approach that centers around engaging games and exercises, so young people feel motivated and excited to get moving and learn new skills.
Our board-certified pediatric physical therapists treat a wide variety of different injuries, disabilities, and illnesses in children and teens. This might include rehabilitation after an injury or surgery, or treatment for a long-lasting condition that affects mobility and strength. If your child has problems that limit their ability to move, learn age-appropriate motor skills, or perform daily activities, then physical therapy can offer benefits to both their physical and mental health.
M Health Fairview pediatric physical therapists are accessible at conveniently located clinics across the Twin Cities metro area — more than any other health system. That means your family will never have to travel far for compassionate, individualized care.
Our approach
Our pediatric physical therapists are experts in body mechanics and physical development. They use their knowledge to help young people who are having difficulties with physical activity improve their movement, strength, and motor skills.
The M Health Fairview Pediatric Physical Therapy program offers personalized treatments that fit your child’s individual needs, goals, and dreams. After completing an initial assessment to determine a specific treatment plan, your child’s physical therapist will recommend services that will help them build muscle strength, flexibility, coordination, and overall health. They will provide an individualized treatment plan that may include exercises, stretches, massage and other therapeutic techniques. Working with a physical therapist can enable your child to:
- Improve his or her strength, coordination, and balance
- Develop age-appropriate gross motor skills
- Increase flexibility, range of motion, and endurance
- Improve safety, independence, and general mobility
- Learn new skills or regain previously mastered skills
- Relieve pain
- Restore his or her mobility after surgery
- Maximize mobility for those with conditions that affect the muscles, bones, or joints
Our play-focused approach centers around engaging games and exercises. Don’t be surprised if your child looks forward to each appointment. Here’s what you can expect:
- Child and family-centered care with parent involvement
- Play-based activities or age-appropriate exercise that combine motor, balance, and play skills
- Skilled support and hands-on techniques to guide your child in learning new skills or regaining skills
- Goal setting that is individualized and motivating to your child
