Our team of pediatric psychiatrists is here to help your family when you need it the most. If your child or adolescent is experiencing a sudden mental health crisis, substance abuse challenges, or a chronic mental health condition, we can meet their needs with the right type and level of care and help them on the path to wellness.

M Health Fairview is the largest provider of mental health and addiction services in the Upper Midwest. As leaders in children’s mental health care, we work to nurture, support, and advocate for the health and resilience of all children and families. Through our partnership with the University of Minnesota, the same care providers that treat children and adolescents are also advancing our knowledge of mental health conditions and developing new and more effective therapies and interventions.

Our goal is always to treat the whole child – mind, body, and spirit – to help your family build a brighter future.

Our approach

Our compassionate mental health experts provide care tailored to the unique needs of your child or adolescent. We help them manage their conditions so that they can get back to everyday life.

Child and adolescent psychiatry is a medical specialty devoted to behavioral, emotional, developmental, and mental health concerns. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who have attended medical school and completed advanced training, and they focus on the biological and medical factors that affect the human mind. They can provide a range of treatments, including medications for mental health conditions.

Before recommending a treatment plan, our pediatric psychiatrists will first assess the mental health of each child in our care and perform a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. This often includes collecting the information listed below:

  • The child’s current symptoms, challenges, and concerns
  • History of the child’s physical, developmental, and mental health
  • History of the family’s physical and mental health
  • Interview with the child’s parents or guardians
  • Academic records, peer relationships, and behavior in the school environment
  • Lab exams and tests, including behavioral assessments

Once a diagnosis has been reached based on the child’s symptoms, medical history, and behavior, our care team will partner with you and your child to develop a treatment plan tailored to their unique needs and goals. Treatment may include one or more of the following elements:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy
  • Psychodynamic therapy
  • Dialectical behavioral therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Psychiatric medication
  • Addiction or mental health intensive programs

If your child is struggling, you may be concerned about their outlook and how it will affect their future and quality of life. It can be reassuring to know that, just like many medical conditions, child and adolescent mental health disorders are treatable. With the appropriate care, your child has a bright future ahead of them. We know that your child’s mental health is of utmost importance to your family, and we will walk side by side with you through the healing process.
