Substance Use
Overview
Our treatment philosophy of care is that everyone’s journey out of substance use is unique. Treatment for substance use starts with a comprehensive assessment which recommends the level of care suited to your needs.
Our approach
Outpatient Treatment
Our programs are designed to help patients understand how alcohol and/or drugs can cause harm in their lives and relationships. All our programs are available via telehealth services.
Planning and intervention reflect an individual's goals for recovery. By working towards these goals, people begin to put the pieces of their life back together and start a new path in recovery.
Our outpatient treatment programs include:
Intensive outpatient treatment
The Intensive outpatient program includes 9 hours of group therapy per week, individual counseling, education on the impact substance use has on our minds and bodies. The program offers family meetings and counseling. We provide a plan, based on structure and accountability, to live a better life free from using drugs and alcohol.
Outpatient treatment
Outpatient treatment is a step down from intensive outpatient. Outpatient treatment provides 4-7 hours of group therapy per week as well as individual counseling, education, and family involvement.
Recovery management
Recovery management meets once per week for 2 hours. Clients develop their personalized Recovery Care Plan to assist them as they prepare to leave treatment and begin continuing their lives in recovery and freedom.
Co-occurring outpatient groups
Clients who deal with a substance use disorder and a mental health diagnosis can benefit from working with a dual licensed therapist to address both disorders together. In addition to the evidence-based therapy and education provided in all our programs, clients will learn how these disorders interact and develop skills to manage their symptoms while getting freedom from the use of alcohol or illicit drugs.
Karen Community Recovery Program
M Health Fairview offers the first culturally specific Karen substance use disorder treatment in the US. Karen Recovery Program was developed with the Karen Organization of Minnesota (KOM) to provide addiction treatment with a culturally specific approach and Karen peer recovery support.
Senior Recovery Program (55+)
The Senior Recovery Program is an intensive treatment program for patients that are age 55 or older with a substance use disorder. A Senior Co-Occurring Program is also available for patients that are 55 or older with a substance use disorder and another mental health diagnosis. Both programs accept Medicare.
Residential Treatment Program
Lodging Plus Residential Program
Our team sees and honors the needs of our patients. We understand the complex life circumstances that contribute to Substance Use Disorders (SUD) and the challenges of recovery.
Lodging Plus has been a gold standard of Substance Use Disorder treatment in Minnesota for over 50 years. Our program has its historic roots in the 12 Step Traditions. Patients continue to benefit from AA and NA groups during evening programming.
Residential is an intensive treatment environment where patients live for 28 days. The therapeutic process supports recognition and acceptance of the damaging effects of alcohol and/or drugs on lives and relationships. The treatment team collaborates with each patient to begin putting the pieces of their lives back together and start a new path in recovery.
All staff are trained in best practices for SUD treatment including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Trauma Informed Care. M Health Fairview supports extensive continuing education of staff and maintains high clinical standards.
Residential Treatment Program
Our residents receive 30 hours of treatment per week including group therapy, individual counseling and spiritual care. Patients also enjoy University of Minnesota faculty lectures that provide information about the science of addiction and mental health. Evenings include peer recovery support meetings and structured activities.
Continued Care for Successful Recovery
All patients are offered and provided support to create an aftercare plan that meets individual needs for continuing their path of sobriety.
Staff and patients partner to coordinate aftercare plans that may include sober living and/or intensive outpatient or outpatient treatment. There are a variety of programs offered through M Health Fairview as a step-down including day, evening, higher and lower intensity outpatient programming. Staff are happy to assist in care coordination to community programs outside of the M Health Fairview system.
