Caring for you: Information for patients about our law enforcement policies.
Many of our Urgent Care locations provide other types of care. The check-in desk may be registering patients to be seen in Urgent Care, or they may be checking-in patients for other services such as a primary care, lab, xray, or physical therapy.
Please head to the nearest check in desk to speak with a patient registration specialist. There may be a line. They will get the information that is necessary for you to be seen in the urgent care including your insurance details.
Patients with certain symptoms may be asked to wear a mask to help reduce the spread of illness.
On my Way is a feature on the M Health Fairview app, website, and MyChart that allows patients to let us know that they are coming to a specific urgent care or walk-in clinic. By checking-in online, it reserves that patient’s space in line before they arrive at clinic. On My Way also shows an estimated wait time for several of our locations. The advantage of viewing wait times and then checking-in through On My Way is that you can wait at home.
We do our best to provide appropriate care to all patients as quickly as possible; however, when there are several patients seeking care at the same time, patients are triaged so that life-threatening illnesses or injuries are seen first.
Wait times can vary and change at any moment based on the amount and severity of patients seeking care. At peak hours, wait times can exceed 3 hours.
Please refer to the patient registration specialist or the M Health Fairview website for up to date wait times for each urgent care by clicking on Get Care. Find a Location (mhealthfairview.org)
Depending on how many patients are registered and currently being cared for, the location may need to close early and stop seeing new patients.
If you come to an Urgent Care location that is at capacity, you will still be triaged for life threatening illness or injury. If the Urgent Care location is unable to safely care for you due to capacity issues, you may be referred to another care option.
This could be for a variety of reasons:
If you think you need a throat swab, please be aware that swabs require the patient to not have eaten or drank for 20 minutes prior to the swab. This includes water and throat lozenges.
Once you are checked in and registered, please do not leave.
Yes, please let the patient registration specialist know that you will be waiting on-site in your vehicle. They will make sure they have your correct cell phone number, so the care team can call you on the phone when they are ready for you.
Patients with certain symptoms may be asked to wait in their vehicle to reduce the spread of illness.
Yes. If the reason for your visit involves urinary symptoms/history or possibility of kidney stones/flank pain, please speak with a patient registration specialist who can alert the care team. A urine sample can be collected prior to you seeing the care team.
The estimated time for blood work (labs), urine, and xray results can vary based on a variety of factors including which tests are being run. If you do not get the results while you are at the urgent care, an urgent care team member will let you know when it is likely that we will get the results. One of our team members will call you with results.
If appropriate, your care team will send a prescription to your preferred pharmacy. You will need to arrange transportation to get your prescription.
The urgent care provider will create a plan for you which may include picking up medications at your preferred pharmacy. You will be discharged with instructions on your After Visit Summary.
Our urgent care teams are trained and ready to assist you with many conditions. Lab and xray are available at all our sites. If your condition can’t be treated by the urgent care team, you will be referred to another location such as a specialty clinic or emergency department.
You will have a care team to manage your evaluation, testing, and treatment. Your care team can consist of a Visit Facilitator, Medical Assistant, and an urgent care provider – a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant.
Your care team will work in partnership with you to understand your concerns and provide care and treatment.
