M Health orthopedic specialists perform many arthroscopic surgeries to restore joints and alleviate pain. Arthroscopic surgery differs from open surgery in that it requires only very small incisions and is usually done on an outpatient basis. As a result, recovery for you or your child is faster, and there is typically less pain than there would be with larger incisions in an open surgery.

To examine a joint problem, our surgeon will make several small incisions in your skin around the affected joint and then insert instruments about the size of a pencil. One instrument will include a small camera lens and a light to see inside your joint. By viewing the images on a television screen, the surgeon can identify the injury. If surgical repairs are needed, such as repairing a torn ligament, miniature surgical instruments can be inserted through one of the other incisions.
