Atrial fibrillation ablation, or AFib ablation, is a catheter-based procedure where a doctor guides electrodes to the heart and uses them to apply extreme heat or cold, or electrical signals, to specific parts of the heart tissue. The resulting scarring prevents the transmission of electrical signals that cause irregular heartbeat, also called atrial fibrillation.
