In a catheter ablation procedure, a doctor takes a long, thin tube called a catheter and guides electrodes through it to the damaged part of the heart. The electrodes then scar or destroy the tiny areas of the heart tissue that are causing arrhythmias. It is considered minimally invasive and is generally performed on an outpatient basis.
