Dialysis is a procedure that filters things like waste, extra salt, and water out of a patient's blood. It can be done via an external machine, called hemodialysis, or by cycling a specialized cleansing fluid in through the abdomen, called peritoneal dialysis. Dialysis is a lifesaving procedure for patients whose kidneys do not function correctly.
