Treatment in

Gamma Knife® Esprit™

Schedule Appointment
We are the first hospital in Minnesota to use the newest generation of Gamma Knife radiosurgery: the Gamma Knife Esprit. It’s a pain- and incision-free treatment system that gives doctors additional options to destroy challenging tumors while preserving important surrounding tissues that could impact quality of life.

Overview

Due to Esprit’s exceptional accuracy, areas beyond the tumor itself don’t receive much radiation exposure, minimizing the risk of side effects and damage to nearby healthy tissue or critical structure. There is no surgical incision made and general anesthesia is not required, so surgery- and anesthesia-related risk and recovery are avoided. During this radiosurgery, up to 192 low intensity radiation beams converge to destroy the tumor’s blood supply and shrink or eliminate it without affecting the surrounding tissue.

After an initial consultation has determined that you are a good candidate, you may be treated with a Gamma Knife Esprit to relieve your symptoms and reduce the size of your tumor. (Note: Gamma Knife Esprit is used on tumors in the head or upper neck region only.)
