Fairview therapists will work with you to develop an exercise program to reduce your Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) symptoms and the risk of future blockages. Visit us for an initial evaluation and to learn more about our program.
Treatment in
Peripheral Arterial Disease Rehab
Our approach
PAD rehab provides supervised exercise in a rehabilitation setting. Commonly known as supervised exercise therapy (SET), this rehabilitation program requires a physician order.
People who take part in PAD rehab:
- Are usually able to walk farther on a treadmill (by about 2 city blocks) after 3 months than people who exercise on their own
- Can walk farther without pain or needing to stop to rest (by about half a block)
- Often have better physical health and quality of life than people who use a stent (a wire mesh tube) to open blockages in the large arteries in the pelvis
As part of PAD rehab, we will:
- Assess your needs: record your medical history, give you a six-minute walk test, and take your vital signs.
- Show you how to begin your own exercise program on the treadmill.
- Track your heart rate, blood pressure, onset of leg muscle pain and rating of pain in your legs.
- Help you reach your goals for improving your symptoms.
