Radiation therapy is often used as part of cancer treatment to damage the cancerous cells.

Overview

Radiation therapy is part of cancer treatment and is used to damage cancerous cells' ability to reproduce and shrink the tumor. It may be administered externally through high-powered energy beams directed at the tumor, or internally via the injection of radioactive material into the body (systemic therapy) or the placement of radioactive material near the tumor (brachytherapy).
